Four homeless Romanians stole £350 worth of coins from the Tower of London destined for the Royal British Legion.

Police made a special visit to the famous London attraction to return the cash that had been donated by tourists after the thieves admitted stealing it.

Staff and members of the public raised the alarm after the four men were seen in the moat picking up the coins from an area in front of Traitors’ Gate which can be covered by the Thames at high tide.

A member of the public shouted at the men and they attempted to run away. But they were detained by Tower of London staff and army personnel.
