Brass from Romania

A TOP brass band from Romania calls at Doncaster as part of a four-date tour of Britain next month.
Fanfare Ciocarlia are winners of the BBC Radio Three 2006 Award for World Music – Europe.

The 11-piece ensemble were originally farmers and factory workers playing at weddings and baptisms. Their music is rooted in the gypsy rhythms of their native Moldovia.

A special feature of the concert in Doncaster’s Priory Place Methodist Church on January 28 is that the band will be linking with Doncaster’s award-winning Powerfuel Hatfield Colliery band, which celebrated its 65th anniversary by winning the national 2007 Pontin’s Championship.
